Urgent Care Growth Prompts The Need For Better Data

The way that we are seeking care is changing.  Access to care continues to be a top healthcare issue as our population ages and appointment availability in specialty clinics is limited. Patients are seeking new access points to respond to acute healthcare needs and the convenience of walk-in care is relatable and attractive to an increasingly savvy patient population.

Staffed by both physicians and advanced practice providers, urgent care centers and walk-in clinics are growing in numbers to meet increased demand.  In our experience with clients nationwide, urgent care centers are finding provider compensation to be one of their top challenges.  The top two issues we see are: 1) successful recruitment of providers and 2) alignment of provider incentives with the unique organizational challenges found in an urgent care setting.

According to Tom Charland, CEO of Merchant Medicine, "Urgent care shows steady growth, predictable margins and private investment from all sectors: private equity, angel investors, health insurers and health systems.  Pretty much the only thing standing in the way is the recruitment and retention of qualified providers."

In order to better understand the intricacies of urgent care provider compensation practices, Gallagher Integrated has teamed up with Merchant Medicine to collect compensation data specific to urgent care with the intent to publish the survey in January 2017. If you would like to participate in the survey and receive a free copy of the published survey, please email info@IHStrategies.com
